Mission Networks

Last month the MI Bulletin featured info on the Mobilization Track and the development of the Koroutahi Manifesto.  There was good feedback which led to some clarifications. Missions is fluid, always changing. MI has gone through a lot of changes over the years. In addition to the groups listed on the cover (left column, taken from the MI Constitution), some of the current and developing groups and new services are listed below. If you have an interest in being a part in some way, please let us know.

- Prayer groups are springing up across the land, some are affiliated with MI

- Mission-related groups in various locations are coming together more. See reference to this in the July MI Bulletin

- An MK and TCK (third culture kids) network is being formed with the help of Emma Stokes, Lydia Hall, Emmy Henderson and…

- We’re looking at ways to more effectively involve more Christian Maori, Pacific Islanders, Asians, etc. in the Kiwi mission process and networks

- A network of regional mission coaches to advocate for missions in their region and walk alongside people with an emerging mission interest

- A monthly Kiwi News service that Wycliffe – and a few other agencies - have been using for a number of years, will soon be available for all MI agencies to provide their people around the world

- We’re looking at revamping the MI web site to more effectively serve the Kiwi mission networks, and people with an interest in missions.

- We’re looking at ways to involve more of those making a real impact for God in New Zealand, and how MI might serve them

- Mission Administrators, those involved in IT,  Marketplace Missions...  we’re looking at ways MI might better serve any and all of the groups involved in missions –  from, in and to – New Zealand

You each help to make up Missions Interlink.  We can all play a significant role. Paul’s analogy nearly 2000 years ago is just as applicable to us today:  The eye cannot say to the hand, I don’t need you. And the head cannot say to the feet, I don’t need you!  We do need each other and have much to gain by networking with others. If you have an interest in any of the above, or are already involved in any of the above, please let the MI office know. Email: info@missions.org.nz.  09 275-8333.

Have you considered joining Missions Interlink?

You may want to look into the advantages of being a member: see www.missions.org.nz. Most cover their annual membership fee within a month or two from the savings of the Bulk Purchasing Program (BPP) that comes with the MI membership. (From the MI web site, go to “about us”, click on “get connected”.)

Bulk Purchasing Program

Last week I took our car in for the WOF. They said I needed two front tyres and a wheel alignment. So I took it to one of the tyre chains that is part of the MI BPP.  They added up the bill; I gave them the MI BPP account number, they added it up again. I saved $75 in that one transaction. Joining MI doesn’t cost you. If you use the MI Bulk Purchasing Program, it’ll save you - and/or your ministry - money.

MI Annual General Meeting

Koroutahi Manifesto

This document, developed by Jamie Wood and the Mobilization stream, was circulated in the last MI Bulletin. Some good suggestions followed which resulted in dividing the content between the Manifesto itself and an introductory overview, including a caveat and brief outline for a way forward. These are available (free pdf or Word) upon request from MI.

24-7 Prayer National Gathering

For the past four years, “24-7 Prayer Rooms” have been breeding like rabbits across our fair land and it’s time to unite the clans! There are oodles of stories...of God showing up in simple, profound and beautiful ways.  More need to hear all about them. For this reason we’ve called our gathering, Stories of the Whenua. We’re meeting to hear stories from across the land that you have created...a taster of the Christian story in NZ, particularly as it concerns Maori, and what that means for us at present.” – Jay Lucas, 24-7 Prayer Team Leader (NZ).

Inaugural Tear Fund Sunday Launched This Month

TEAR Fund is having an event-packed month with a wide range of artists promoting the work of TEAR Fund. All events are free and there is sure to be an event that appeals. We also promo the up-coming Watoto Children's Choir tour in September.  http://client.minervamail.com/redirect/tearfund/115/110/7985.html

Child sponsors all over NZ are getting behind the first ever TEAR Fund Sunday to promote the value of child sponsorship.  This event will be launched on Sunday August 24.  This is an exciting even for TEAR Fund, says TEAR Fund’s Support Relations Manager, Claire Keenan.  "There is nobody more qualified to tell others about the wonderful benefits of child sponsorship than the people who are already doing it, and we have been overwhelmed by the response from people willing to get behind it."

You Don't Have to Cross the Ocean to Reach the World (Book Release)

The key to reaching the nations with the gospel is to first reach the stranger who dwells among us. With this strategic principle, David Boyd set out to plant a church that focused on identifying and equipping bicultural people to share God's love across borders of race, culture, and language. The result is a way of doing church that honours Christ's call to reach every nation with His message of salvation while making connections between previously disconnected people.

You Don't Have to Cross the Ocean to Reach the World shows readers in any country how to reach the world through building multicultural congregations. With a firm biblical foundation, compelling case studies, true stories, and practical suggestions for implementation, this is the ideal book for everyone who wants to reach the world for Christ by starting at their own front door. Available now to MI members via Life Resources - Box 13434 Armagh 8141 or sales@lr.org.nz or call 0800446569 - $19.95 plus pp.
