Koroutahi Manifesto
The Council of Missions Interlink has agreed to endorse the Koroutahi Manifesto developed by a group of collaborating mission organisations. The Manifesto seeks to provide common theological and philosophical ground upon which signatory organisations are building a cohesive strategy to increase the awareness of cross-cultural mission in, from and to Aotearoa/ New Zealand. We anticipate the outworking of this manifesto will see the ongoing development of the Destination World experience, developing follow-up systems to facilitate the healthy growth of the NZ mission force, and various other collaborative mission agency endeavours.
An introductory overview of the Manifesto will be attached in a separate e-mail.
If you would like to add your organisation to the growing list of organisations choosing to sign this Manifesto, please drop us a line to that effect: info@missions.org.nz. There will be no financial obligation on signatory organisations, but we expect involvement in collaborative mobilisation efforts in the future to require adherence to the Manifesto.
Press Release: Missions Interlink Appoints “Project Catalyst”
At a special MI Council meeting, the Council unanimously agreed to establish the role of Project Catalyst to facilitate approved collaborative projects. The Council further agreed that Darren Birch - Project Manager for Destination World - was the right choice for this role. He will work particularly with the MI Director and the mobilisation track of Missions Interlink with a focus on youth and young adults.
Darren completed his B.Com (1998) before moving to Wellington to work among refugees. There he married Cheri in 2000 and they moved to Melbourne where Darren completed his MA in Theology. Darren and Cheri now live in Palmerston North and have 3 children and one due in January. Darren has been working with Pioneers in mobilisation for the past few years. He also lectures the Context for Ministry course at BCNZ [Manawatu].
Darren has also led kids and youth ministries; served among refugees, the homeless and those with mental illness; and taught at Northland College and Kaikohe Christian School. Darren and Cheri ran a home for drug addicts returning to the community from rehabilitation programs and currently lead a life group for young adults in Palmerston North.
We look forward to enjoying the specialist contract services that Darren and Cheri will bring to MI and look forward with anticipation to what God will do through them for the New Zealand mission community. Darren’s contact info: Phone 06 35 398 35, or 021 448 408.
Prayer Links - 30 Days Muslim Prayer Focus - 1 - 30 September 2008
Ramadan is the Muslim month of prayer and fasting, when Muslims seek favour from their god. It's also a wonderful opportunity for Christians to pray for Muslims, that they will indeed receive God's favour -through a revelation of His Son, Jesus.
The 30 Days of Prayer for the Muslim World prayer booklets will help you pray with insight and clarity for Muslims around the globe. This year there is a six part "Preparation for Praying" supplement which means the booklet can be used as soon as you receive it, the articles contain a stronger emphasis and focus on Muslim's humanity and God's love for people, there is a great article on "Helping Muslims Discover Jesus" plus lots of testimonies of answers to our prayers.
30 Days prayer booklets cost: 1-9 copies $6.00 each, 10-49 copies $5.50 each, 50+ copies $4.50 each. Also there’s a new 30 Days "Just for Kids" booklet - it's great for children and families to work through at their own pace ($5 ea); a short 30 Days promotional video clip (2 mins 30secs, approx 6MB) in windows media player format (free if you have a broadband connection); a 30 Days Resources CD containing the promotional video clip, A3 & A4 poster masters, creative ideas on different ways to pray, other video clips, teaching, testimonies and other resources etc ($6 ea); a new World of Islam DVD which includes stunning footage from many Islamic countries, and provides information about the basic tenets of Islam and the diversity of Muslims around the world dispelling simplistic attitudes toward them, and inspiring Christians to pray (12 mins, 3 mins plus bonus 40 mins of teaching by Don McCurry) ($30 ea). To order or for more information contact marn@talk.co.nz or ph 021 185 3334 or write to MARN, PO Box 20-063, Glen Eden, Auckland 0641.
Post Codes
The September 2006 edition of the MI Bulletin had some suggestions about how to update agency mailing lists to meet the new NZ Post Code requirements. A recent phone call to NZ Post revealed that as from 1 June 2008 all mailouts are required to use the new post codes. If your database still needs to be updated, a database containing the post codes for all Street addresses in NZ can be downloaded free from http://www.noodles.net.nz/2007/09/14/new-zealand-postcode-database-v2/ in MySQL and CSV/Excel format. Although this database also claims to include post codes for PO Boxes, Private Bags and Rural Delivery addresses, a closer look revealed they are not included. However this database is still a valuable tool and may save you many long hours of updating addresses manually.

For the past four years, “24-7 Prayer Rooms” have been breeding like rabbits across our fair land and it’s time to unite the clans! There are oodles of stories...of God showing up in simple, profound and beautiful ways and more need to hear all about them. For this reason we’ve called our gathering, Stories of the Whenua. We’re meeting to hear stories from across the land that you have created...a taster of the Christian story in NZ, particularly as it concerns Maori, and what that means for us at present.” – Jay Lucas, 24-7 Prayer Team Leader (NZ).
